Família, saúde e doença : o que diz a investigação

    Get PDF

The purpose of this paper is to establish the profile of the foreign visitor that attended the UEFA Euro 2004 Championship in Portugal, namely in the Minho region. Data were collected through a one-to-one inquiry carried out before the matches that took place in Braga e Guimarães. The survey instrument included aspects like the visitors´past comsumption behaviour, media audience and live attendance sport habits. The results we got show that sport event tourists living in countries with higher per capita income spent more in the UEFA Euro 2004. They also stayed in country longer than other visitors. Other valuable information for both tourism operators and tournament managers we got is that most sport event tourists decided to overnight on sites with efficient and direct accesses to the matches. Otherwise, they may be characterized as usual sport consumers in terms of active and passive sport comsumption behaviour. The return of visitors to the sites where the UEFA Euro 2004 took place remains unsolved. Future studies should concentrate on community reimbursement and mid/long term benefits.UEFA Euro 2004, economic impact of major sport events, sports tourism.

How compensation policy based on EVA performance reduces the conflict between managers and shareholders

    Get PDF
There is a well-known conflict between managers and shareholders, superbly illustrated by the agency theory. A way for shareholders to ensure that managers will perform optimally, by taking the best actions and decisions, is to tie managers’ compensation to the performance of the firms. However, how can we fairly measure their performance? The Economic Value Added (EVA) methodology seems to be a good solution; recent events reinforced the idea that accounting indicators analysis may not be a suitable approach. The EVA is not a widespread concept in Portugal and its inception is relatively recent. To have an idea about how Portuguese managers perceive EVA and to understand which strategies (e.g. wages policy, bonuses, stocks and/or stocks options) firms utilize to make everybody happy, particularly managers, we developed a study with Portuguese public entities, using the questionnaire methodology.London Metropolitan Universit

Palavras-chave: Enfermeiros; Cuidados Paliativos; Burnout.ABSTRACT Background: Among the various factors that contribute to the strong emotional demands caused by the extreme situations of patients in palliative care, can stand out work-related stress that by persisting over time, can lead to physical and psychological decompensation, called a burnout. Methods: This was a non-experimental, quantitative, type causal comparative and explanatory, which was attended by 55 nurses to practice in palliative care. For the measurement of variables used a measuring instrument with recognized reliability: MBI (Maslach Burnout Inventory). We traced well as general objective of our work to know the incidence levels of burnout in nurses Palliative Care Units working in the Hospital Our Lady of the Assumption - Seia and Hospital Tondela. Results: It was found that gender, age, marital status, length of professional practice, contractual status / type of bond and shift work did not interfere with participants' levels of burnout. However, it was found that nurses who have a dual employment have higher levels of burnout in the subscale "Emotional Exhaustion" and that nurses who are not working in this situation have higher levels of "Professional Achievement" and "depersonalization" . There were statistically significant differences between the subscale "Depersonalization"”, (t=-2,506; p=0,018) and the fact of having a dual employment, which resulted in the acceptance of the hypothesis for this subscale. Conclusion: The evidence from this study provide indications that nurses working in palliative care and have two jobs, have some psychosocial morbidity due to the complexity of the situations they face daily in relation to patients and their families, resulting in burnout.
